Hey this is Scott I’m back again

 375_MG_1297

Well here we are again… where did we leave off?

Well we were fighting bad guys and saving orphans.

Ok Ok we were looking at pictures and hearing about the eventful day in which an eternal family was formed. (And saving defenseless kittens from savage wolves)

It went something like

Bobbie Jane met a boy

 012_J7S1372

He took her into his arms

 016_J7S0978

They sat there on the pier contemplating their future

 006_J7S1211 022_J7S1149

Sometimes doing dip kisses

He then took her to the Temple

Now he’s married to Bobbie Jane

And now you’re caught up…

So finally we can get down to business and talk about the PARTY

(A celebration of love if you will)

This is me… I’m happy because I’m doing what I like to do. Shoot People…

(Shall I be more specific… I shoot people in the face… and if you don’t like that well then… Tough)

My name is Scott and I photographed a Reception and by “I Photographed a Reception” I mean that’s all I photographed.

Here’s my story:

This is Joel he’s a friend. He’s also a photographer. He’s also married!

He’s the groom. You could tell though couldn’t you. Without me saying you could tell… The coat, the flower, and yes of course the smile, the look on his face… you could tell couldn’t you.

This is Alicia, she agreed to marry Joel. Awww….

This was from a year ago. I was working on getting the lighting working and decided to try a couple without lighting.

Sometimes if you pose them they just don’t get the vision that you’re just getting profiles and silhouettes but I think next twilight I’ll have to try to get them to look cool.

This has kind of become one of my things I do at each wedding.

First of all I always stay until the Bride and Groom leaves… though there might not be much going on and though the families tell me I’m free to go, it doesn’t hurt to stick around just in case something happens so the families aren’t left saying and remembering how there was one shot they wish they would have gotten.

I usually drag the shutter when they leave with a low flash straight at them… I’ll pan along with them and sometimes even exagerate the pan of the camera to get some fun lines.

As you can tell it’s best when they’re waving good bye… and lots of fun when the car is decorated nicely. (The people that decorated the car will be so happy with your pictures documenting their hard work)

From this same wedding I did a post about photographing downwards from upwards positions. Well it’s very easy when the subjects are much shorter than you.

One good consideration is that you can find cleaner backgrounds for the pictures (like on the right picture)

There’s something about having someone tilt their head upwards like this… they often come up with great expressions naturally.

Remember the things you make them do will effect the emotions coming from their face… ergo the look you get.

This was from a wedding reception in California on the 3rd of July this year and as usual taken at the lowest aperture of the lens 2.8 usually.

A wedding recently at La Cailled in Sandy Utah. I took out the Jarvie Window for just a few minutes and got some pictures when they started dancing and pulled some people in for some close ups of course.

Live music is not only fun for wedding guests, but can be a lot of fun to take pictures of.

This is just a sample of one I enjoyed from last night’s wedding. Love the expression.

Live music adds a feeling to the day that is awesome, DJs are also fun and ones that aren’t cheesy and know how to get a crowd to get out and dancing without being needy about it are also a lot of fun. Sometimes you want the songs you want and bands can’t do them and sometimes you want a good sound system, but then again a live band brings in a great feeling to it all.

Yesterday’s wedding was a blast. Which means there are a billion pictures, which means they’re going to take a while to get edited. Which means I should put up a teaser or two in short posts.

Which means I am putting up the first funny picture I found.

Carissa and a few of her brides maids were dancing and I had them dance towards me and they stuck out their arms and just did whatever and below is the result.

I thought it was fun.

This was 1/8th of a second 1/128 flash zoomed in a bit at f/4 and low ISO – I guess they call that drag the shutter (which by the way I think is a dumb label) But in any case it is what it is.

Anyway they kept on asking me to get pictures up soon for their facebook profiles so at least these 4 can have something until the crazy amounts of pictures have been sorted through.

This grandpa was into the dancing.

Believe me I was on top of getting this picture when I saw everyone watching him go at it.

Often you are shown the pictures to take by what everyone else is paying attention to.
Yes go for the small details, then the rest of the time recognize what people are paying attention to and making a big deal of.
Your job isn’t so much to decide what is important for them, but to document what really is important.

You might remember the couple from their wedding day pictures in San Diego… the super sunet.
Check them out here

Their reception was at “The Point” at the huntsman cancer center.

I liked the location and the food was awesome.
If you go to the full gallery you’ll see all the pictures including the many pictures my two interns took.

There is a Food Photography Clinic being put on by my good friends Rich Legg and Nicole Young

It’s Thursday at the SLC library 6:30 – 8pm

Here’s the post with more info

I was looking through some pictures to perhaps add to their discussion.
I know my style of food pictures is probably going to be different. Less diliberate more consequential of where I am at. Less product orientated and more to catch memories.

But I thought I’d share some favorites over the years.

Though most of my stuff comes from wedding gigs. This one was taken as I was sitting down for a meal in Italy.
Just kinda took a picture of what was happening

Wedding pictures are mainly done to preserve memories. Remember that awesome cheesecake we had at our wedding?
Well now this is perhaps the only real memory left… my picture.

When we all figured out after like 20 minutes of shooting that they didn’t want to be told what to do, like it seems everyone else expects of me.
We started to really have fun and just do some crazy and fun stuff and I was just there to document it and tell them when something wasn’t working.

For instance on the last two they just posed differently after every shot. Believe it or not they had no idea of what the other was doing.
