Tonight I'll go into DC another time before I leave to head south.

Which other religious buildings in DC would you suggest to visit?

The National Cathedral
We're still a long ways away from deciding which of the thousands of buildings I'll visit will be in the Faith In America book…
But it's pretty certain the National Cathedral will make it in there.

HOW IT WAS MADE

14mm
ISO 100
13 seconds
F/11
Dodge and burn in Lightroom and a bit of tilt/vertical correction. No color corrections after import settings, it was at twilight… clouds were being lit up by the city nicely.

Anywhere out here on the East Coast still have some good fall colors?
I'm think I'm recovered enough I'm gonna head south from DC now.

BTW if you've got a place to park the airstream (19ft + car) then fill out the form. http://bit.ly/AirSurfinJarvie

I sit here wondering if this church (which was frequented by some of our founding fathers such as Washington when they were up as far north as Maine) was placed here in relationship to the North Star, it was all just to perfect a set up. It's something I actually don't run across all to often on my trip.

I know old buildings are often moved from place to place with the changing landscape and changing times.

SEEING SYMBOLS
I however choose to see the uplifting symbolism in this shot.

REMOTELY
Btw I took this while working on pictures in the airstream, initiated while in there with a camranger and reviewed with the Note2, it was 45 minutes if I'm not mistaken, so it was nice to have that ability to sit down and do some work.

"FLARE"
I consciously opted to include the street light knowing it'd add some "flare" to the picture… both kinds of FLARE.

PATH
It's an obvious symbol and part of the leading lines aesthetic but it's also so very inviting.  it also speaks to how sometimes the way is so simple that many aren't motivated, it's small and narrow and old and unpretentious.

NORTH STAR
I think most of us understand the symbolism of the North Star even in our GPS-device governed world.

A guide we can be sure about, which however only works if we know where to find it, trust it, and know how to use it. There are other options and this one is a bit tough, but it won't guide you astray, assuming you use it correctly.

CHOOSING
Just as you choose to be happy or to believe, you can choose to see symbols all around. I choose all 3

And my trip has been more than wonderful so far.
I look forward to sharing the VLOG from this day on https://www.youtube.com/user/JarvieDigital
Stay tuned and watch the other videos until then.

over on https://www.youtube.com/user/JarvieDigital

On day 4 of the show (which episode airs Tuesday) we'll see images from some random churches in Nebraska… like this one near Omaha… which is known as the "Glass Church"
I'm taking these pictures for the +Faith In America project

{YOUTUBE TIPS}
For you YOUTUBE noobs … subscribing is kind of a cross between hitting the "Like" button and setting your DVR.
And since my channel is new getting more subscribers will help for future sponsors and funding and improvement of the Show in general.
Even if none of that stuff happens… It just makes me happy and motivates me to do more and get better.

Oh and I hear magical ferries send you gold stars when you hit that subscribe button and thumbs up the videos.

{SEASON 1}
Anyway all 5 episodes in season one are edited and uploaded… one a day starts tomorrow morning.

And tomorrow I'll be busy filming for episode… like 30 something tomorrow in Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg.

THINKING AHEAD
Yeah so they're working on putting up the Christmas lights at the DC Temple it takes many many weeks to put up 600k lights apparently. haha

So here's one of my faves from a 3 second shot of a crisp fall morning today.

Prints Available on SmugMug – http://www.jarviedigital.com/Temples/Top-Temple-Images-Small/i-SZFqdgZ

SURGERY TODAY
Just think you can help me pay for my Wisdom Teeth surgery today (And/or a tank of gas) with the purchase of some prints.
Yes… book pre-sales will be online soon enough for those that didn't get in on the +Faith In America  KICKSTARTER.

THE BUILDING
The DC LDS Temple is actually located off the freeway in Bethesda Maryland.
This building is open to all those that want to take pictures, visitor center parking lot was even open at 6am when I took this.
Hords of people come during the Christmas season for the amazing lights and for the general spirit of Christmas feel. The the visitor center itself opens at 10am and closes at 9pm and has great exhibits and tours.

THE PICTURE
I used a polarizer to get nice blue skies, I lightened some of the darker bushes and I removed some of the leaves in the pond.
3 seconds
ISO 100
Camera laying on the ground
F/6
15mm

I know it sounds crazy but I really appreciated their general lack of excessive traffic and their way cool skies (weather)

DC traffic kinda makes a person sad. Oh well, I'm gonna try to escape the city a bit more tomorrow.

The Airstream is my home for a year and I had my first experience parking it at a friends house and driving all around Vermont and being gone for over 24hrs.
(Not really a huge deal since I've done dozens of trips in my venza… but still a cool first for the trip)

THE ROUND CHURCH
It finalized with a sunrise shoot of this old ROUND church building in Richmond Vermont.

I love having the Airstream as a home base with a nice bed and a great computer and storage of stuff… But nothing quite like the added freedom and easier parking of ditching it for a day or two.

BTW didn't think I was going to be photographing many Round Churches… but hey… I suppose I'll be seeing lots of unique sights during this year long journey for Faith In America Project

Wish I could put a bit of time into some #Airstream Polishing … Nevertheless… Still love taking some pictures of this.

PAGING TOYOTA
Note to +Toyota USA  – I'm towing with your vehicle ) … you should get a hold of me, let's chat.

THIS PICTURE
I pulled to the side of a sleepy little Amish countryside road. I almost didn't find a good spot for sunset… but right at the end when I was getting some good color I came across 2-3 nice spots there in Holmes County Ohio.

I know +Trey Ratcliff doesn't need me to share his post to get his point across to millions of folks but I really appreciated his write up so I'm gonna write my reactions and link his post here anyway http://www.stuckincustoms.com/2013/07/04/sony-nex-review-nikon-vs/Go read it!

It's a fascinating read… and it doesn't matter that me and most of you won't be switching… but I think we can understand why he did and many in his situation may also switch as well.

{Some Thoughts}

1. I just wanna say I got a chance to play with a top of the line micro 4:3 camera last week and take hundreds of pictures and it was eye opening… I kinda expected it to be kinda lame (or non exciting… like taking pics with a point and shoot) … and it wasn't… there were some great features. thanks +Dave Veffer
The pictures are still in the queue for being edited.

2. I think I was most impressed at how fast and sharp the focus was.

3. I didn't rush out to buy one if you're wondering. Though I may prior to my year long road trip. http://bit.ly/americanfaith

4. Would I like to have one? Yes

5. Would I still use my NIKON more? Yes. (It fits my type of photoshoots better and fits my style/look better) and I already have tons invested in Nikon… no use spending more money.
6. I'm not the target market of the mirrorless – I do astro-photography, I do heavy bokeh portraiture, and I do action stuff a lot.

7. Years ago i bought a Canon G11 seeing if I'd be inclined to use a point and shoot. Turns out I don't mind taking my big DSLR every where I go already. So while it may be nice to have a smaller camera it's not a big selling point for me. Maybe when I get as old as +Trey Ratcliff I'll care more about weight ;) haha

8. Ok I must admit I do see some uses FOR ME of having a small pocket carried camera for travel stuff

{What do I want to know more about?}

9. How long do these cameras last. My D700 is at 300k+ pictures… does not having a mirror make these last longer. Or does the lower quality non-pro build make them last less?

10. Timelapse. I wanna know more about the options for timelapse pictures. FOR ME, I see this as the easiest most probable usage.

11. I know one of the reasons to keep the full frame dslr's is for the better bokeh… what are these cameras gonna do to attract someone like me… can they do anything?

12. Question… Is there any reason nikon wouldn't do a pro camera like the d800 without a Mirror?

13. So what is the best thing about the mirrorless cameras, the size, the cool features or simply not having a mirror?

Hello Sony. Goodbye Nikon. The Story of why I am Switching from Nikon to Sony.
Oh, Nikon… Sad Emoticon. Nikon, you’ve been good to me over the years. It’s not you. It’s me. Well, maybe it is kinda you. You’re kinda getting heavy; let’s be honest. I have this other new spunky Asian I’ve been seeing. Her name is Sony. Yeah, she doesn’t have those giant lenses…but… she fits …

And to think I almost didn't go because it was midnight I was a bit tired and the shots were a bit tricky. (Obviously)

But I think it turned out well. I know these guys put a whole lot into their jeeps and they love doing the night trails and I bet they've never gotten a picture like this before.

Try my first PHOTOSHOOT VLOG
http://youtu.be/KdblzV9V69I
Of a photoshoot I did Friday with +Amy Whitcomb

You'll get an idea of what my photoshoots are like

Maybe laugh a little, get a few photo tips, listen to some witty banter, see some peacocks and hear my peacock call, listen to some singing, see some flashing etc.

I'm downright GIDDY about my last project (7-8hrs)
A 3 minute video about my adventures in Jeep photography.

Being my first video of it's type (And having taught myself video editing) I'm getting lots of feedback before I release… in order to get maximum impact.
But I love it and I fancy I'm decent at these visual things. #biased

Look for it on http://www.youtube.com/user/JarvieDigital
Hopefully Later today.

Msg me if you want a sneak peak and to give helpful feedback

But for now it's 4am and it's bedtime
