Sushi dinner party at the MGM amongst photographers and photography industry exhibitors called the Jarvie Window into action.
Me thinks it will come out a little more often this week.

Words I never thought I would be saying: “I’m going back to school next week” … JarvieU photography School

I try to make it to Photo meetups in the area when I can.
One of my favorites is the Strobist Meetup.
I’ve only been to 3 of them… but they’ve always been very informative for me.
Or at least a great chance to play with lights and do things I wouldn’t normally do in my shoots.

It’s not just girls I take pictures of… but i actually took some of some of the dudes.

Very cool pics. You captured that sunset beautifully.

Gorgeous!

Strobist meetups are going to have to become a “must attend” thing for me.
-
These are so cool!!! Can anyone attend these group get togethers?
-
Seriously, can anyone attend these? Or do you have to meet certain requirements? I love the ones of her jumping, you captured the water droplets coming off of her feet. Awesome.
-
Yes they can indeed.
Check out the flickr group… Utah Strobist or something like that. -
Good job!!!, I love the sunset. The picture is so natural!!
Editing at the speed of Light(Room) Day2
Written on March 18, 2009 Posted in Tips For Photographers, lightroomThis next entry is from a photographer I met recently. He’s never been one of my workshops and he actually teaches lightroom where he works. So not only is it a fresh perspective but it’s a pretty knowledgeable viewpoint

I’m lazy. This I know. But I can’t believe I’d never thought to use metadata tags like copyright, name, email, and web site. Oh thank heavens you posted this!

So, so informative! Not that I don’t like your blog posts but I would love to see more guest bloggers. I’m testing the max capacity of Goggle Reader.

Interesting! The more I read, the more I feel like I should get my lightroom installed right now!

Since I was at the shoot, I got to see first hand how you work with a couple and how amazing it is that you get them to be comfortable and open up so you can get great shots. You are the master with your signature “HaHa” that gets them to laugh EVERY time! That combined with the way you set up the shot and location is what makes you the phenomenal photographer you are. You have inspired so many others to step outside the box and take pictures differently. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

I worked with the most awkward guy I’ve ever met last month. I soooo needed to read this first. I’ve bookmarked it and plan to read it again before shoots with strangers. (JaG)
-
I LOVE your philosophy! It fits my own style and photography preferences. I don’t think it’s lazy, I think it’s more natural.
-
Thanks so much for the ideas. I guess I don’t have to be so stressed out about posing and having all these ideas in my cap before I even head out for a shoot. I like your relaxed style and approach.
-
I agree with Jessica, we should stick with the term natural, instead of lazy.
-
It’s easy to tell that you make people feel comfortable. JaG

And as you can see… now days I’m sadly not as “natural” – lazy as I used to be.
I got into the second light thing and have been setting up more scenes.Still not quite like other people… I still mix in a lot of the old jarvie style shooting with the new techniques.
The joys of working with another photographer on a shoot.
Let me give you a short glimpse into this subject.
These are my thoughts as of now… as i’m just venturing into some of these paths.
Suffice it to say it is a whole new joyful world to working with and working well with another good photographer.
Working with another photographer & having another person assist you are different.
Both can be great things! And both pose problems
But they are different things.

Very interesting. How often and for what circumstances do you work with another photographer?
-
Not so much anymore. It has to work perfectly.
And then sometimes you go your own ways a little later down the line.
Sometimes other things in life just happen even if you work together so well on photo shoots. But I’ve been trying to get really good working with all sorts, pushing myself to have tons of assistants so I can get to know all the types.
I would like to find some people to work with that are in related fields like art directors or lighting specialists. Those would be fun to work with.
I might do more commercial shoots with a great art director in stride.
